Attention fellow bloggers: Samsung will leave you stranded if you don’t promote their products

This whole story seemed so silly to me, I just had to write about it.

According to an article from The Next Web, Samsung offered to fly a number of mobile-tech bloggers in India all the way to the IFA conference happening now in Berlin. One of the bloggers, Clinton Jeff, reportedly told Samsung prior to coming that he would only attend as a non-biased reporter, and wouldn’t do any promotional work for Samsung products. This wasn’t a problem for Samsung at the time.

When the bloggers arrived in Berlin, they were given Samsung shirts and uniforms, and told that they’d be in charge of a Samsung booth throughout the conference, “showing the products to members of the press.”

When Clinton objected, a Samsung India PR representative told him, “…you can either be a part of this and wear the uniform, or you’ll have to get your own tickets back home and handle your hotel stay from the moment this call ends.”

Nokia ended up flying him back just in time. Apparently this isn’t the first time Samsung has mistreated bloggers. A French blogger had previously written about “winning” an all-expense paid trip to the London Olympics that turned out to be pure Samsung product promotion.

Samsung can’t get away with this kind of behavior. Bloggers are people too.
