Elizabeth Minett is an all-star blogger with an immense Instagram, Twitter, and blog following. A model-turned-baker and blogger, Elizabeth has her finger on the pulse of all things fashion and food, and the business of influence. She’s an Editor’s Pick and User’s Choice Nominee for Vanity Fair‘s Best-Dressed List Challenge, and a contributor to four Tidal-powered sites (including Epicurious’ Community Table, The Grommet’s Ripple, and Fashion Indie). In short, she’s a trendsetting blogger maven. We caught up with Elizabeth to learn why she blogs and where she sees the blogosphere taking her career.

Why do you blog?

I love fashion and obviously I love baking. I’m more passionate about sharing the ideas than just talking about what I’m doing. I like connecting with people. It’s great to have interaction with people who have similar interests. With blogging, there’s so much access to information. People want to know “How do I put together an outfit?”, “How do I put shoes with these pants?” I love connecting with people on that level. I modeled for years, and I’ve been in photo shoots so I guess it comes naturally to also blog about fashion.

How long have you been blogging?

My blog started in 2011. I have a lot of ideas of ways to expand as well. I just started a YouTube channel and it’s going so well. I do how-to videos. Blogging can be a launching pad for a lot more—a lot of bloggers have clothing lines and or cookbooks. You can create your own brand and do whatever you want after that.

Why do you think blogging is so successful?

I think it’s a real time representation of how people feel and what they want. For example, the gluten free trend is huge now. When I started the blog I didn’t want it to be a gluten free blog but I can’t deny it now—I get much better responses to my gluten free posts. I’ll give you what you want, people!

What do you think the benefit is for companies to hire bloggers?

Bloggers are so great for advertising. If someone I’m following says, “I’m using this and it’s great, or I’m wearing this,” I’m so much more likely to use that.

How has participating in Vanity Fair‘s Best-Dressed List Challenge been?

It’s going well. I like that they have guest editors come in and vote because you know it’s someone who knows fashion and are relevant in fashion.

Have you discovered new fashion bloggers through The Challenge?

Yes! There are some really cute looks and lots of international submissions, obviously, which I like. For editor’s picks, I went through and looked at every winner.

What’s the best thing about blogging?

I think that blogs allow you to create your own identity and your own business. Blogging is a startup—five years ago you couldn’t do this. My passion has always been baking and fashion and I can do that through blogging. Plus it’s a place where I can have a voice. Modeling for so long , I never had a voice. It’s so nice to start a dialogue with people, and I can do my own thing. There are no rules and there’s nothing better than that.
